One of my favorite places to stay when visiting Disney World is any one of the resorts on the Crescent lake area adjoining EPCOT. All of them are very nice, have great amenities, and a very important factor in my decision to stay there - LOCATION!
All four hotels put you in very close walking distance to both EPCOT and Hollywood Studios. There are also boats that run between those two parks and all four resorts. This make visiting the parks and getting back to one's room for some refreshment quite easy without the worries of waiting on buses or other transportation. They are also centrally located in the Disney Complex so drives or busses to the Magic Kingdom, Animal Kingdom, Downtown Disney, and water parks are very manageable.
Besides location, the shops, restaurants, and entertainment along the Disney Boardwalk provide after hours food and fun that one will not find going back to the other hotels in the resort. One of my favorite treats is a tiramisu from the Bakery on the Boardwalk while strolling back from an evening at EPCOT. Another favorite is heading into Jellyrolls, the dueling piano bar, for some late evening entertainment. Kimono's at the Swan hotel has excellent sushi along with some karaoke, and there are always some strolling minstrels or magicians on the Boardwalk to entertain both youth and adults.
Depending on one's needs and desires in a resort I recommend doing a little self investigation into the different amenities offered by the four resorts; however, here is my brief opinion on where one should consider:
The Dolphin and Swan are a little "less Disney" and a little more adult oriented. They share a very nice swimming area and consist of hotel rooms and a few suites. They both are large, clean, have excellent restaurants and bars, and are usually very reasonably priced for resorts located on Disney property.
The Yacht and Beach Club boasts a very nice water park with hotel rooms and deluxe multi room villas. This property also has access to a marina that rents boats, pontoons, and chartered rides for the Illuminations fireworks show at EPCOT. This is a great resort for families and is literally steps from the International Gateway entrance of EPCOT.
The Boardwalk sits atop Disney's Boardwalk of shops, restaurants, bars, and entertainment. It features regular rooms as well as deluxe villas. Bike rentals, great themed pool areas, and short walks to both EPCOT and Hollywood Studios make this a great location for families that need a place for their teens and youth that want to be free from their parents.
Any of these resorts are great centralized locations for a Disney experience. All the resorts on the Disney Property are wonderful, and I will surely address others somewhere else in this blog, but these four represent a truly magical place right in the middle of the action.
